U.S. President Trump held talks with European Commission President von der Leyen and agreed to reduce the tariff on the EU, which was scheduled to be imposed at 30% starting next month, to 15%.

President Trump, who is visiting Scotland in northern England, held talks with EU Commission President von der Leyen on the 27th regarding tariff measures against the EU.

After the meeting, the two jointly responded to questions from the press, and President Trump revealed that they had agreed to reduce the tariff on the EU, which was scheduled to be imposed at 30% from next month, to 15%.

President Trump explained that tariffs on everything, including automobiles, will become 15%, while tariffs on steel and aluminum products will remain unchanged at 50%.

On the other hand, the EU has reportedly promised to purchase energy worth $750 billion approximately 110 trillion yen from the United States and to make new investments of $600 billion approximately 88 trillion yen in the United States.

President Trump stated, All EU countries have agreed to eliminate tariffs on the United States and open up trade, and added, I think this is the biggest deal ever.

President von der Leyen also said, An agreement has been reached between the two largest economic areas in the world.

He emphasized the significance of the agreement, stating that it brings stability and predictability.

President von der Leyen: Ultimately, the result is satisfactory. After the meeting, President von der Leyen told reporters, The negotiations were very difficult and started from a point where there was a significant gap.

He said, In the end, the result was satisfactory.

On top of that, it was explained that the United States and the EU agreed to exempt aircraft and their parts imported by the U.S. from the EU, as well as certain agricultural products and specific critical minerals, from the 15% tariff, and that neither side would impose tariffs on these items.

On the other hand, regarding steel products and aluminum, they mentioned the introduction of a system in which tariffs would be reduced up to a certain amount, but the details have not been disclosed.

It also states that an agreement has been reached to purchase liquefied natural gas LNG and oil worth $750 billion from the United States over the next three years.

According to EU officials, the EU prepared for these negotiations while receiving advice from the Japanese side, which recently reached an agreement with the United States regarding tariff measures.
