The tropical depression over the sea south of Japan is expected to develop into a typhoon, approach Okinawa and Amami, and then possibly move closer to western and eastern Japan between the 4th and 5th.

The Japan Meteorological Agency is urging people to check the latest weather information.

According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, the tropical depression over the sea south of Japan was moving north-northwest at a speed of 25 kilometers per hour as of 6 a.m. on the 3rd.

The central pressure is 1006 hectopascals, the maximum wind speed near the center is 15 meters per second, and the maximum instantaneous wind speed is 23 meters per second.

The tropical depression is expected to reach the sea south of the Daito Islands in Okinawa around noon today, and then develop into a typhoon. There is a possibility that it will approach the Amami region by early morning on the 4th.

In the southern part of Kyushu and the Amami region, moist air from around the typhoon is flowing in, making the atmosphere unstable. Through the 4th, there is a risk of heavy rain with thunderstorms and, in some areas, very heavy rain.

The amount of rainfall expected in the 24 hours leading up to the morning of the 4th is predicted to be up to 100 millimeters in both southern Kyushu and the Amami region.

Also, strong winds are expected through the 4th in southern Kyushu and the Amami region, and high waves with swells are forecasted for the seas around the Daito Islands of Okinawa, southern Kyushu, and the Amami region.

The Japan Meteorological Agency is urging people to be on full alert for landslides, flooding in low-lying areas, and rising river levels, as well as to watch out for strong winds, high waves, lightning, and sudden gusts of wind.

There is a risk that the typhoon will approach western and eastern Japan between the 4th and 5th.
