Aichi Prefectures Toyota City announced that two people who contracted an infectious disease transmitted by mites died in June, one after another.

Toyota City is calling on people to take precautions, such as minimizing skin exposure, when entering fields and mountains, as it is now the season when tick activity is high.
豊田市によりますと死亡したのは、いずれも市内に住む50代の女性と90代の男性です。
According to Toyota City, the deceased are a woman in her 50s and a man in his 90s, both residents of the city.
2人はいずれも主にウイルスを持つマダニにかまれることで引き起こされる感染症、SFTS=「重症熱性血小板減少症候群」に感染していたということです。
Both individuals were found to have been infected with SFTS Severe Fever with Thrombocytopenia Syndrome, an infectious disease mainly caused by being bitten by ticks carrying the virus.
このうち50代の女性は、草むらで除草作業を行ったあと、5月27日に発熱などの症状を訴え、10日後の6月6日、入院先の医療機関で死亡しました。
Of these, a woman in her 50s developed symptoms such as fever after doing weeding work in the grass, reported them on May 27, and died at the medical institution where she was hospitalized 10 days later, on June 6.
90代の男性は、6月15日、発熱や筋肉痛などの症状があり入院しましたが、9日後の6月24日に死亡し、その後、SFTSへの感染がわかったということです。
A man in his 90s was hospitalized on June 15th with symptoms such as fever and muscle pain, but died nine days later on June 24th. It was later found that he had been infected with SFTS.
豊田市はダニの活動が活発な時期を迎えているとして、野山に入る場合は長袖長ズボンや帽子、手袋を身につけて肌の露出を少なくするなどの対策をとるよう呼びかけています。
