On July 1st, in the case where a male employee was stabbed to death with a knife at a law office in Ikebukuro, Tokyo, it has been learned from interviews with investigators that about a month ago, the suspect’s family and acquaintances had consulted the police, saying that “there was a risk he might harm others.”

The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating the circumstances leading up to the incident.

On the morning of the 1st, before noon, at a law office in the high-rise building Sunshine 60 in Higashi-Ikebukuro, Toshima Ward, Tokyo, an employee, Daiki Yoshino 36, was stabbed multiple times in the neck with a knife and died. The Metropolitan Police Department arrested a colleague, Reito Watanabe 50, on suspicion of attempted murder after he turned himself in at a nearby police box immediately after the incident.

In response to questioning, it has been revealed that he stated, I had held a grudge for a long time, and when I reached my limit, I stabbed him. Additionally, according to interviews with investigators, about a month ago in early June, the family and acquaintances of suspect Watanabe had consulted a police station in Tokyo, saying that there was a risk he might harm others.

It was not a consultation that identified any individual, such as specifying who others refers to.

On the same day that this consultation was received, police officers visited the suspects home with the parents, but the suspect was not present and they were unable to meet. After confirming that there were no dangerous items inside the house, the police asked the parents to speak with the suspect and contact the police at a later date.

The suspect was reportedly carrying two other knives in his backpack in addition to the weapon used in the crime, and the Metropolitan Police Department is investigating the circumstances leading up to the incident, suspecting that he may have been harboring resentment for at least a month.
