According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, warm and humid air is flowing in from the south toward a front and a low-pressure system stretching over the Sea of Japan, causing extremely unstable atmospheric conditions over a wide area from the Tokai region to Kyushu.

In areas such as Tokai, rain clouds developed locally from dawn, and in the one hour up to 5 a.m., a rain gauge installed by Inabe City, Mie Prefecture, recorded a torrential downpour of 83 millimeters.

Due to the recent rain, the risk of landslides has increased in Mie Prefecture, and there are areas where landslide warning information has been issued.

Here is the outlook for the future.

The front is expected to pass near western Japan through the 26th, and in western and eastern Japan, there is a risk of very heavy rain or heavy rain, possibly accompanied by localized thunderstorms.

The amount of rainfall expected in the 24 hours until the morning of the 26th is forecast to be up to 120 millimeters in some areas of the Tokai region.

Please be extremely cautious of landslides, especially in the Tokai region where rainfall is increasing, and be alert for flooding in low-lying areas and rising river levels.

The tropical depression that formed from a typhoon may bring heavy rain even to the Kanto region. Meanwhile, the tropical depression that formed from Typhoon No. 2 is moving northward near the Izu Islands and is expected to approach the Kanto region around the 26th.

In the Kanto and Tohoku regions, warm and humid air from around the tropical depression is expected to flow in, bringing the risk of heavy rain with thunderstorms through the 26th. Rainfall is forecast to reach up to 100 millimeters in some areas of Kanto-Koshin in the 24 hours leading up to the morning of the 26th.

The Japan Meteorological Agency is urging people in the Kanto and Tohoku regions to be very careful about landslides, flooding in low-lying areas, and rising river levels.
