The Osaka-Kansai Expo, themed Designing Future Society for Our Lives, will open on the 13th with the participation of 158 countries and regions.

It is questioned whether it can serve as a venue for countries to interact while introducing cultures from around the world and new technologies expected to become widespread.

The Osaka-Kansai Expo, which will be attended by 158 countries and regions, will open on the artificial island of Yumeshima in Osaka on the 13th.

The venue expresses the concept of diverse yet one by having the worlds largest wooden structure, the Great Roof Ring, which is approximately 2 kilometers in circumference, enveloping the uniquely individual international pavilions.

The theme is Designing a Future Society Where Life Shines, and features include a moving mini heart made from iPS cells, the latest androids, and flying cars, with three teams conducting demonstration flights.

Additionally, each participating country, region, and international organization is assigned a National Day on which their representatives visit and engage in exchanges while introducing their traditions and culture.

Countries and regions in the midst of conflict, such as Ukraine and Palestine, are also set to participate and exhibit, raising the question of whether it can serve as a venue for international exchange amidst increasing global divisions.

The Osaka-Kansai Expo is expected to attract 28.2 million visitors over the six months until October, with more than 140,000 visitors expected on the first day, the 13th.

Five countries wont make it in time According to the announcement by the Expo Association, five countries will not open their pavilions in time for the opening due to incomplete interior work and other preparations. These countries include Nepal, which is building its own pavilion; India, which is participating by decorating the exterior and interior of a building provided by the Expo Association; Chile and Vietnam, which are participating by renting a building constructed by the Expo Association; and Brunei, which is joining in a format where multiple countries or regions share a building constructed by the Expo Association.

On the other hand, Chile explained in an NHK interview on the 12th, We will open on the 13th and hold a ceremony.

Additionally, although Poland, Turkmenistan, and Kuwait have completed the procedures for building their own pavilions, they will not open on the first day due to ceremonies for related parties.

For this reason, the Expo Association will publish the opening information for the following day on their homepage every day from now on.
