According to observations by the Japan Meteorological Agency, at 3 a.m. on the 13th, a tropical depression near the Ogasawara Islands developed into Typhoon No. 5.

At 6 a.m., it is moving slowly north-northeast over the sea, 170 kilometers south of Chichijima in the Ogasawara Islands.

The central pressure is 998 hectopascals, the maximum wind speed near the center is 18 meters per second, and the maximum instantaneous wind speed is 25 meters per second. Strong winds of 15 meters per second or more are blowing within 280 kilometers southeast and 110 kilometers northwest of the center.

At this time, areas such as Haha-jima in the Ogasawara Islands are experiencing strong winds. The system is expected to intensify as it moves north, coming closest to the Ogasawara Islands during the day on the 13th, and then approaching the Kanto region on the 14th.

The amount of rainfall expected in the 24 hours until the morning of the 14th is up to 100 millimeters in the Ogasawara Islands. In the 24 hours until the morning of the 15th, the forecast is for up to 120 millimeters in northern Kanto, Koshin, and the Ogasawara Islands, 100 millimeters in southern Kanto, and 80 millimeters in the Izu Islands.
