Japan Airlines announced that it has decided to reduce the compensation of 37 directors and executive officers, including President Mitsuko Tottori, after the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism issued a stern warning over a case involving a pilot drinking alcohol at an international layover.
Last month, a Japan Airlines captain who was scheduled to work on a flight from Honolulu, Hawaii to Chubu Airport drank alcohol at his hotel in violation of company regulations. As a result, the scheduled flight and two other flights were delayed by up to more than 18 hours. In response to this issue, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism issued a strict warning to the company this month.
In response to this issue, on the 17th, Japan Airlines announced disciplinary actions for its executives, including a 30% pay cut for President Mitsuko Tottori for two months. In addition, the Director and Senior Managing Executive Officer who serves as the Chief Safety Officer, and the Head of Flight Operations responsible for operational safety, will each receive a 20% pay cut for one month.
In addition, all directors, including outside directors, and executive officers will have their salaries reduced by 10% for one month, making a total of 37 people subject to disciplinary action.
Also, it has been stated that the captain who drank alcohol at the place of stay was dismissed for disciplinary reasons as of the 11th of this month.
