Due to the influence of a front and moist air, developed rain clouds are covering mainly the northern part of Tohoku, and there are places where heavy rain is falling.

There is a risk of very heavy rain on the Sea of Japan side of the Tohoku region through the 21st. The Japan Meteorological Agency is urging people to be on high alert for landslides, as well as flooding in low-lying areas and rising or overflowing rivers.

According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, warm and humid air is flowing toward the stationary front near the Tohoku region, causing the atmosphere in northern Japan to become extremely unstable.

The amount of rainfall in the 12 hours up to 6:30 a.m. was 183 millimeters at Tazawako Kogen in Semboku City, Akita Prefecture.

Due to the recent rain, landslide warning information has been issued in some areas of Akita Prefecture, so strict caution against landslides is necessary.

The front will slowly move southward over the Tohoku region through the 21st, and as another low-pressure system passes near Hokkaido, the atmosphere in northern Japan is expected to remain extremely unstable through the 21st. There is a risk of very heavy rain, up to 50 millimeters per hour, on the Sea of Japan side of Tohoku.

The amount of rainfall expected in the 24 hours until the morning of the 21st is as follows: up to 150 millimeters in the Sea of Japan side of the Tohoku region, and up to 100 millimeters in both the Pacific side of Tohoku and in Hokkaido.

After that, the rain is expected to continue, and there is a risk that the total rainfall will become quite high.

The Japan Meteorological Agency is urging people to be extremely cautious of landslides, as well as to be on alert for flooding in low-lying areas and rising or overflowing rivers.

Be aware of severe gusts of wind such as lightning strikes and tornadoes, as well as hail.
